Zobcová flétna patří do velké skupiny dřevěných dechových nástrojů.
Na světě existuje opravdu mnoho hudebních nástrojů flétnového typu, a proto musíme být velmi přesní v názvosloví, abychom nezaměnili zobcovou flétnu za příčnou či lidovou píšťalu aj. Co tedy ve skutečnosti je "zobcová flétna"? Do rodiny flétnového typu řadíme velmi mnoho historických, lidových a současných nástrojů. Zobcová flétna má, kromě i dalších odlišností, které však vznikly sekundárně, osmou dírku na spodní straně těla (korpusu). To ji odlišuje od všech dalších hybridních podélných fléten a nástrojů jí příbuzných.
NÁZVOSLOVÍ:
Po několik staletí byla zobcová flétna nazývána jednoduše "flétna" a flétna příčná "flauto traverso". Teprve po "znovuobjevení" zobcové flétny, se vytvořily názvy nové, protože název "flétna" plynně přešel na flétnu příčnou. Většinou je název odvozen od charakteristických vlastností zob. flétny - ať už zvuku - "Flauto dolce" (líbezná, sladká flétna) či jejího vzhledu: od zobce - "zobcová flétna". Anglický název "the Recorder" je starší a je odvozen od názvu ptáka, který si něco pamatuje - recorder. Na flétnu se totiž také přehrávaly jednoduché melodie, které si někteří ptáci uměli zapamatovat a opakovali je. V Anglii a Austrálii se používá řada: Sopranino, Descant, Treble, Tenor a Bass, v Německu, USA a dalších zemích (i ČR) je to naopak: Sopranino, Soprán, Alt, Tenor a Bas. Co se týká fléten basových je ve světě užíváno tohoto názvosloví: Bass, Great-Bass, Contrabass, Sub-Contrabass a Sub-Sub-Contrabass. Celkově není sjednocena ani notace jednotlivých fléten.
Anatomie
"Základní" zobcová flétna - míněno altová - se skládá ze tří částí, jimiž jsou: hlavice, tělo nebo-li korpus a nožka.Tyto části se spojují v čepech, které jsou u dřevěných fléten, jako u jiných nástrojů, obkrouženy korkem či nití. Vedle tohoto uspořádání jsou flétny vyššího ladění, které jsou vyráběny například ze dvou či i z jednoho kusu dřeva - nedají se tedy rozkládat. Naopak flétny basové mají i více jak tři části a pomocné klapky jsou již nezbytností.
Nejdůležitější částí celé flétny je samozřejmě její hlavice. K ústům se přikládá jistě vzhledově nejchara-kterističtější část flétny a to zobec, kde je, mezi vsazeným čepem a stěnou flétny, veden vzduchový kanálek. Ten směřuje ke zvuk-ovému výřezu, kde proud vzduchu narazí na ostrou hranu jazýčku a ve flétně se rozechvěje vzduchový sloupec, čímž vzniká zvuk. Tvarování kanálku či jazýčku a dalších těchto částí také výrazně mění povahu a barvu zvuku nástroje.
Pomocí dalších dvou částí, těla a nožky, ovládáme délku rozechvěného vzduch-ového válce a tedy i jednotlivé tóny tak vznikající. Celkem na flétně nalezneme osm otvorů, které se řádně číslují. Díky tomuto číslování je poté velmi snadné dohledání jednotlivých hmatů.
Garklein-Flotlein je nejmenší z celé řady zobcových fléten v nejvyšším ladění. Používá se zcela výjimečně v souborech zobcových fléten a to jen tehdy pokud je sopraninový part položen příliš vysoko, jako sólový nástroj se nepoužívá skoro vůbec, jedná se spíše o raritu. Flétna je dlouhá pouhých 16cm. Celkem hezký dárek, než-li hudební nástroj

SKUTEČNÝ ROZSAH >
(C3 - C5)
Sopraninová flétna je z celé flétnové rodiny nejpoužívanější flétnou ve vysokém ladění. Její délka je 22cm a šířka u většího hrdla je asi 5cm. Díky těmto parametrům vzniká v korpusu flétny vysoká frekvence vzduchového válce, která určuje rozsah flétny od f2 až g4. Většinou je tato flétna dvoudílná (hlavice a tělo ). V období baroka byla také často využívána jako sólový nástroj (Vivaldiho koncerty) či jako flétna orchestrální (C.Monteverdi: Orfeo).

Sopránová flétna je dnes nejčastěji využívanou flétnou. Hodí se totiž pro přípravu nováčků pro hru na jiný nástroj. Slouží však také jako plnohodnotný nástroj např. ve flétnovém kvartetu nebo souboru či jako sólová flétna ve středověké nebo soudobé hudbě. Její délka je 33cm a šířka u většího hrdla je asi 7cm. Většinou je tato flétna třídílná (hlavice, tělo a patka). Její rozšíření má na svědomí i její cenová dostupnost.

(C2 - D4)
Altová flétna je asi flétnou nejznámější. Svého vrcholu dosáhla v baroku, kdy byla nejvíce využívána jako sólový nástroj. A to především díky svému sladkému a medovému hlasu. Jsou pro ni napsány nádherné barokní skladby od věhlasných skladatelů jako jsou A.Vivaldi či J.S.Bach. Její délka je 47cm a šířka u většího hrdla je asi 10cm. Většinou je tato flétna třídílná (hlavice, tělo a patka) a někdy je opatřena klapkou či dvojklapkou pro nejnižší tóny F a F#.

(F1 - D4)
Tenorová flétna je o oktávu níž než flétna sopránová. Velmi často se používá jako druhý hlas k flétně altové v barokní a renesanční hudbě, dnes je upřednostňována jako flétna sólová. Její délka je 65cm a šířka u většího hrdla je asi 12cm. Většinou je tato flétna třídílná (hlavice, tělo a patka) a vždy je opatřena dvojklapkou pro C a C#. Hlavice může mít také podobu jako má např. basová flétná, tvz. "knick." Nejvyšší tóny mohou dělat problémy i pokročilejším žákům
< ZÁPIS ODPOVÍDÁ ROZSAHU
(C1 - D3)
Basová flétna je poslední nejčastěji užívanou flétnou. Flétny s hlubším laděním se u nás používají velmi málo, častou příčinou je totiž jejich vysoká cena(10.000Kč až 20.000Kč). Její délka je zhruba 100cm a více, šířka u většího hrdla je asi 18cm. Flétna je často třídílná nebo čtyřdílná (hlavice, 2x tělo a patka) Pro její značnou velikost je opatřena klapkami nejen na posledních dvou tónech ,ale i na těle. Hlavice je buď tvořena tzv."knick" nebo má flétna "esíčko" což je pro hráče mnohem pohodlnější. Basové flétny všeobecně mají krásně zvučné hloubky, avšak těžko znějící výšky.

Velký bas je o oktávu níž než tenor. Nejčastěji je používána ve velkých orchestrech zobcových fléten, kde je pro interpretaci klasických skladeb velmi potřeba nebo se užívá také v etnické hudbě. Je oblíbený i v kvartetech fléten při úpravách barokních děl a dále se velmi často užívá v moderní hudbě pro zobcové flétny. Flétna je vícedílná, opatřena z vetší části klapkovým systémem a (nastavitelným) esíčkem. Je dlouhá cca 130cm.

Kontrabasová flétna je jedna z atraktivních zob.f., které přitahují svoji pozornost především svoji velikostí a celkovým vzhledem.
